Since its inception in late January 2024, the AI-CENTIVE community has made remarkable strides in promoting sustainable mobility. Over a span of just over six months, the initiative has successfully cultivated an active community of over 1000 members and achieved significant CO2 savings through the use of sustainable mobility options, incentivised by the ummadum app. This article provides an overview of the key achievements and growth rates up to July 2024, highlighting the unique approach of AI-CENTIVE in fostering environmentally friendly transportation choices.

The Unique Approach of AI-CENTIVE

AI-CENTIVE sets itself apart from other ummadum communities by leveraging advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence. The participants receive personalized notifications encouraging sustainable travel, tailored to the users’ behavior and preferences. This innovative approach not only motivates members to choose eco-friendly transportation options but also enhances their overall experience by providing relevant and actionable insights.

Challenges and Gamification

The AI-CENTIVE community utilizes challenges and gamification elements to increase participation and encourage sustainable mobility habits. Through a rewards system and playful elements, users are motivated to change their habits and actively contribute to reducing CO2 emissions.

Sustainable Mobility in the AI-CENTIVE Community

By promoting eco-friendly transportation within the AI-CENTIVE community, the program has successfully raised awareness of sustainable mobility and achieved concrete, measurable results. In total, the collaborative efforts have resulted in 103,193 activities, covering a distance of 986,538 km and saving 119,450 kg of CO2. These results underscore the critical role of AI-driven incentives in driving green behavior and making an important contribution to the fight against climate change.

*The calculation of CO2 savings in the Ummadum app is based on official guidelines provided by the Austrian Umweltbundesamt. According to these rules, each kilometer of sustainable mobility results in a CO2 savings of 169.1 g, compared to a regular drive by a single person in a car.

The results in detail

Biking Activities

Biking has emerged as a popular and effective means of reducing CO2 emissions within the AI-CENTIVE community. With over 40,000 biking activities, users covered a total distance of 100,520 km, resulting in a savings of around 17,00 kg of CO2. Biking accounts for 38.0% of the total activities and 10.2% of the total distance, contributing to 14.2% of the community’s overall CO2 savings.

Ridesharing Activities

Ridesharing has also played a crucial role in the community’s efforts to lower carbon emissions. Participants in ridesharing activities completed over 8,000 activities, covering around 300,000 km and saving over 24,700 kg of CO2. Drivers involved in these carpooling activities further contributed to the reduction, with more than 7,000 trips covering over 267,000 km and saving an additional 22,650 kg of CO2. Combined, the total CO2 savings from ridesharing amount to over 47,300 kg, underscoring the significant impact of coordinated carpooling on reducing emissions.

**In the AI-CENTIVE data, CO2 savings from ridesharing activities are split equally between the rider and the driver, with each receiving 50% of the total savings. This approach ensures that the environmental benefits of shared rides are accurately and fairly distributed, promoting more sustainable transportation choices within the community

Public Transport Usage

Public transport usage has demonstrated the greatest potential for CO2 savings within the AI-CENTIVE community. With around 14,000 activities covering over 300,000 km, the community achieved a reduction of over 49,800 kg of CO2. Public transport represents 13.5% of the total activities and 29.9% of the total distance, accounting for 41.7% of the total CO2 savings.

Walking Activities

Walking, though less impactful in terms of distance, also contributes to emission reductions. With more than 34,600 walking activities covering over 31,000 km, the community saved around 5,300 kg of CO2. Walking constitutes 33.6% of the total activities, 3.1% of the total distance, and 4.4% of the total CO2 savings.
